Nutrition
When funds run low, often so too does nutrition.
During one of the Health and Nutrition assessments, primary school students were asked how many meals they eat each day and what food they eat the most. Of the students surveyed, most ate 2 meals per day. The foods most frequently on their table? Rice and watermelon.
With meals of rice and watermelon, it is easy to see why the children are small and, in many cases, malnourished.
![]() | For several years China Service Ventures provided daily bags of milk (fortified with additional vitamins and enzymes) to the students. Over the period of time which the milk was received, marked improvement in growth, clarity of the skin, and brightness of the eyes has been noted. Due to recent health/milk concerns, China Service Ventures is currently investigating other options for nutritional supplementation that can be provided to the students in their current environment. |
It was observed that many of the nursing students, like their primary school counterparts, were malnourished. As a result, China Service Ventures began providing 100 of them with $50 per semester – this is enough to cover their entire food bill.
