Youth Servant

“Not to be served, but to serve…” this is an easy mantra for most Americans to understand.  But not all cultures actively engage their citizens in serving each other and serving their communities.

Beginning in 2004, and every summer since then, a group of American high school students has traveled to Central China as a part of China Service Ventures’ Youth Servant Project.  Here, they meet up with a growing group of Chinese high school students to build relationships and complete a service project.

Over the past few summers, the project has involved the painting of one of the primary schools which is visited by the Health & Nutritional Assessment Team and which also receives daily milk.  While the methods may vary from what they are used to (most have not previously painted with a bamboo pole) it is an experience which makes them not only glad that they went, but with the realization of how truly blessed they are.
